Session 5: Refocus and Revitalize

The next step in breaking through your barriers is to refocus and revitalize.

 

Congratulations on completing Phase 2 of your personally tailored BreakThrough SolutionTM, which means you’re more than halfway to breaking through your barriers and being more effective. (Click or tap here if you haven’t completed the Phase 1 or 2 of your BreakThrough SolutionTM.)

As we discussed in the previous session, our emotional midbrains are wired for pleasure and pain. As such, our midbrain interprets uncertainty and insecurity as a pain that it needs to avoid.

But when we are unable to avoid the pain of uncertainty, we become anxious and demotivated to take positive action. We become stuck.

In Phase 2, your task was to identify any situations in which you could “change the context” to calm any negative thoughts or emotions.

When you “change the context” and engage your higher reasoning centres, you rejuvenate your brain and get motivated to take positive action.

But “changing the context” is only part of the solution. The focus of your thoughts also determines how successful you are at breaking through your barriers.

Therefore, to be more effective, you also need to refocus your thinking and revitalize your mindset.

The contemporary definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.

If your old ways of thinking and behaving are not getting the results you want, you need to refresh your old ways of thinking and renew them with a different perspective and purpose.

Your BreakThrough Forebrain

 

In evolutionary chronology, your forebrain area developed after the reptilian and midbrain parts of your brain. It is therefore the most evolved part of your brain, and in fact the part that separates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Your forebrain is responsible for your superior human intelligence, which includes your thought processing, beliefs, reason, self-awareness, analysis, and planning.

It is responsible for the conclusions you draw to external stimuli, your perception and your perspective.
